I did a search for “online shopping” on google.Com.Sg and saw Ming’s Jipaban.Com listed on the number two spot out of 400 million search results. I also just learnt today that the person behind this is none other than Singapore SEO Consultant, Larry Lim. If you’ve been living under a rock, Jipaban is currently the hottest online shopping website in Singapore and is home to many popular local fashion brands like Bonito Chico and Oh My Muffins.

I first knew Larry back in 2005, when he was just starting out – he actually provided his SEO services for free just to get things moving. Then he got a big break in 2007 in the form of HomeCamera.Com, a unit of Singapore’s third biggest mobile operator M1. From there, other big name companies begin contacting him and pretty soon he had clients like Singapore Press Holdings, Edelman, Popular Holdings and P1 WiMAX under his belt.

SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimization, is the process of optimizing your website with the purpose of ranking higher in the search results of Google, Bing and Yahoo. There are a series of steps involved, beginning with analyzing keywords to target, changing the website content and HTML codes to increase relevance, and building links to increase the website’s “trustworthiness” in the eyes of the search engines.

Of course, the above is just a very basic description of what SEO is about. The more advanced marketers even employ blackhat SEO methods that can get the website to the top of the search results faster with less effort required. Although Google cautions against blackhat methods, there are some safe and legal blackhat tactics that are harmless.

Apart from SEO, Larry Lim also does Google AdWords campaign management. AdWords is Google’s advertising program and arguably the biggest online advertising platform in the world, because it reaches 80% of the Internet population.
